A long day...

Today, we head out to cousin Meghan's Communion in Queens. My Dad says there is a Yankee game so there will be a delay on the George Washington Bridge. We leave at 12:00 Noon, knowing that we will be a little late to the 1:00 party.

On the way there we are listening to 1010 Wins for traffic and we hear the dreaded news...its not JUST a Yankee game its a Subway Series. For those that don't follow baseball, the Subway Series is a game between the New York Yankees and the New York Mets....the crosstown rivals!

Jim & I look at eachother and groan. We know there is *no* way we are even going to arrive at the party for a while. I call my parents who are already on the Bridge and it took them a half hour to get there. We tell them that we will be taking the lower level since it is a shorter wait and we estimate to be about 40 minutes behind them.

Okay, so we're driving and Jim sees a lot of cars cutting over to the right hand lanes and the left lanes are empty. So....he stays to the left. I ask him what he's doing since the lower level is to the right! He says its okay, there is a crossover. I inform him that there is NO crossover going from the upper to the lower, just the lower to the upper. We travel for a little bit longer and come to a DEAD STOP!

We crept along very slowly for the remainder of the journey. Hitting traffic on the Cross Bronx "Parking Lot", the Throgs Neck Bridge AND the Cross Island Parkway. We could not just get a break!

We finally arrived at the party at 2:30. So it took us about 2.5 hours to do a trip that takes about 1.5 hours. We did have a wonderful time at the party and it was great to see everyone!
